For many people, buying a hot tub from Spa Max for the very first time can be a complex and confusing process. Not the actual sale, of course, we make that process as easy and simple as possible. But while you are considering buying a hot tub, you think about where you should have it installed, the size of the tub and other factors as well.

With so many hot tub brands and hot tub styles, narrowing things down to a few choices can be quite challenging. Here are a few things you need to keep in mind when going through the steps of purchasing a hot tub.

Discover Why You Are Buying a Hot Tub

Our most basic buying tip when buying a hot tub is to figure out the reasons why you want a hot tub in the first place. You may want a hot tub so you can soak your tired muscles after a tough day at the office. Perhaps you want a hot tub for the whole family to enjoy. Maybe you want a hot tub so you can throw epic hot tub parties and have your friends over.

If you plan on buying a hot tub for parties, you will want to get a hot tub that seats as many people as possible. It just doesn’t make sense to buy a two-person hot tub for this purpose. It also doesn’t make sense to buy a small hot tub if you plan on having the whole family use it.

Now, if the hot tub will only be used by yourself and your spouse for relaxing purposes, then a two-person hot tub is the ideal choice. You will also want a hot tub with more features that help you relax.

Pick a Location

Before you even look at a hot tub, pick out the spot where you want to install it. If you have more than one ideal location for your hot tub, pick the spot that is closest to your house. When it’s cooler outside, you will be glad you are closer to the house.

Once you have a spot all picked out, measure it. There is nothing worse than picking a spot and then discovering that the hot tub you chose won’t fit there.

If you plan on placing your hot tub on your deck, make sure it is able to hold the weight. If you have an existing concrete slab you will be using, make sure it is level.

Consider Your Budget

While you might know how much you want to spend on the actual hot tub itself, you also have to consider other expenses. For example, there is a charge for installation and whatever costs are associated with setting up a proper location for your hot tub.

And then there are the ongoing costs of owning a hot tub. Hot tubs cost money to keep the water heated and there are chemicals that need to be bought and maintenance to consider. These added expenses might not be much, but it is something you should still think about.

Consider Enhancing Your Hot Tub Experience

Not that you necessarily have to buy any of these accessories right away, they are still something to think about when buying a hot tub. Some hot tub accessories you might want to have include pillows, fiber optic lighting, steps and a stereo. There are also a number of other fun things you might want to buy for your hot tub including games you can play in your hot tub and a floating bar.

Consult an Electrician

All electrical work performed on a hot tub needs to be done by a licensed electrician. Hot tubs can take either take 110 or 240-volt electrical hookup, so make sure you have that near your location.
