You love hot tubs. Not only are they fun and relaxing, but they are great for soothing sore muscles at the end of a workout, inviting friends over to relax and chill, or just to sit in and watch the stars come out with a nice glass of wine. But should you buy new or used?

At SpaMax, we have dozens of new and used hot tubs for sale. Our Corona showroom features many different manufacturers of hot tubs next to one another, so you can decide for yourself which one suits your needs. From more intimate, small hot tubs to larger hot tubs designed to hold your family and/or friends, we have it all. Below, we’ll go over some of the pros and cons of buying a new versus used hot tub. THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT PURCHASING A NEW VERSUS A USED HOT TUB

Probably the biggest noticeable difference between purchasing a new hot tub versus a used hot tub is the price. If you don’t have the budget for a new hot tub, investing in a gently used hot tub can be a great deal. The key to purchasing a used hot tub is finding the right deal. While you most definitely can purchase from an individual on any of the social media sites that offer a marketplace, we recommend that you purchase a used or refurbished hot tub from a dealer.

Hot tub dealers understand how hot tubs work. They ensure that the used hot tub you are purchasing works and that there will be no foreseeable (and costly) problems in the future. When a hot tub dealer, such as SpaMax in Corona, receives a used hot tub, usually on trade, they go through every square inch, checking it for defects, cracks that need to be fixed, or electrical wiring that has gone bad. They fix anything that requires attention before selling it, and they sell it for a fair price.

That being said, if you have your heart set on a new hot tub and you’re on a budget, hot tub stores usually offer financing. This is a great way to have a top-of-the-line spa or hot tub for a low monthly payment. SpaMax offers financing on our new hot tubs. Call us for more details today!

WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A USED HOT TUB

Purchasing a new hot tub is worry-free since you are guaranteed to have everything working. When purchasing a used hot tub, there are some things you should check over before investing:

  • Outside. Do you see any noticeable scratches, cracks, or dents? What about warping? Are there holes anywhere or is there a part of the lining missing? While some minor damage is to be expected, big, glaring issues should be avoided.
  • Pumps. The pumps are what control the jets and the movement of water. Obviously, the jets are one of the reasons you are purchasing a hot tub, so you want to be sure the pumps are in good working order. They should hum, like you hear when you are sitting in the hot tub. There should be no grating noises or any other abnormal noise.
  • Control and access panels. You’ll want to take a peek at the control and access panels. Make sure the thermostat is working correctly (super important so you can adjust the temperature of your hot tub to your preferred temperature), the lights, and any other features.
  • Check for leaks. Leaks can be impossible to see if the hot tub has been sitting empty for a period of time, but by inspecting the electrical wiring, you should be able to see if there are any signs of rust, corrosion, or critter damage.
